Benefits and advice for pet parents

  • FRONTLINE PLUS® is a clinically proven veterinary medicine that’s available in 1-dose, 3-dose and 6-dose packs

  • It can be applied to cats from 8 weeks of age that weigh at least 1 kg and ferrets from 6 months of age. It can also be used on pregnant cats

  • FRONTLINE PLUS® is a topical treatment which is applied to your cat’s skin to kill fleas and ticks through contact – meaning they don’t have to bite your cat to be killed

  • Bathing/shampooing/water exposure once a week does not affect the product’s effectiveness. Do not bathe your cat for 2 days after application

  • If your cat or ferret is unwell, please see your vet for advice before you apply a flea treatment

  • FRONTLINE PLUS® for Cats is not suitable for use on rabbits

How to apply FRONTLINE® to your cat

Simply follow these easy-to-use steps:

Remove an applicator from the pack and remove the foil backing

Hold upright to ensure all contents are in the main body of the applicator and snap applicator tip

Part your pet’s fur at the base of their neck and apply to the skin

The treatment will naturally spread over their skin. Do not bathe your pet or let them swim for 2 days after application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why might I see fleas on my pet after applying FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON?

FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® and FRONTLINE® SPOT ON kill fleas by affecting their nervous system, making them hyperactive before dying. These dying fleas often rise to the top of the pet’s coat and bounce, so if you see fleas after treatment, it’s often a sign the product has got to work. Does FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON stop fleas from jumping onto my pet?

No, in fact no product stops fleas from jumping onto pets. However, fleas are killed after contact with your treated pet: within 24 hours for FRONTLINE PLUS® and FRONTLINE® SPOT ON, or within 6 hours for FRONTLINE TRI-ACT®.

Do fleas and ticks need to bite my pet to be killed by FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON?

No. FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® and FRONTLINE® SPOT ON act topically, which means that fleas and ticks are killed through contact with your pet’s skin and coat – they don’t need to bite to be killed.

How does FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON work?

Once applied, FRONTLINE PLUS®/ FRONTLINE TRI-ACT®/FRONTLINE® SPOT ON is stored in the sebaceous glands in your pet’s skin and spreads over their whole body surface with their natural oils. Fleas and ticks are killed through contact with your pet’s skin and coat – they don’t need to bite to be killed.

Can FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON be used on any breed of cat and dog?

Yes, FRONTLINE PLUS®/FRONTLINE® SPOT ON can be used on any breed of cat and dog, including collies and other herding-breed dogs which can sometimes show a sensitivity to some parasite treatments.

My pet is pregnant/lactating, can I use FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT-ON during this time?

FRONTLINE® SPOT ON is licensed for use in pregnant and lactating cats and dogs. FRONTLINE PLUS® is licensed for use in pregnant cats and dogs, and lactating dogs. FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® is not licensed for use during pregnancy or lactation.

Can I apply FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON to pets other than cats and dogs?

You must only ever use products on pet species that they have been specifically developed and licensed for. FRONTLINE PLUS® for Cats can only be used on cats and ferrets; FRONTLINE PLUS® for Dogs can only be used on dogs; FRONTLINE® SPOT ON for Cats can only be used on cats; FRONTLINE® SPOT ON for Dogs can only be used on dogs and FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® can only be used on dogs. Do not use any FRONTLINE® treatment on rabbits.

What happens if my pet gets wet straight after applying FRONTLINE PLUS®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT®/FRONTLINE® SPOT ON?

Once FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® or FRONTLINE® SPOT ON has been applied, it’s recommended to keep your pet out of the rain and away from water (including the sea, streams, rivers and ponds) for the next 48 hours. Don’t bathe them either. If they do come into contact with rain within 48 hours after treatment, it’s unlikely that they’ll get so wet that the product is washed away. However, if your pet gets soaked to the skin then the effectiveness of the treatment may be affected and reapplication may be needed. If this is the case, please contact your veterinary surgeon for advice.

Is FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT®/FRONTLINE® SPOT ON safe to use on my pet?

FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® and FRONTLINE® SPOT ON have an exemplary safety profile and adverse reactions to the treatments are very rare. If you believe your pet has experienced any adverse reactions after use of FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® or FRONTLINE® SPOT ON, please contact our technical services team at petsuk@boehringer-ingelheim.com or your veterinary surgeon.

Can I handle or stroke my pet after applying FRONTLINE ® PLUS/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON?

You can handle, stroke and cuddle your pet as usual as soon as the application site is dry. In the meantime, treated animals should not be handled and children should not be allowed to play or sleep with them.

Is FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON dangerous to use if I have small children?

As with all licensed veterinary medicines, FRONTLINE PLUS®, FRONTLINE TRI-ACT® and FRONTLINE® SPOT ON have undergone extensive safety evaluation. When used as directed, pets treated with FRONTLINE® flea and tick treatments do not pose a health risk to children or adults. It is a recommended precaution that children or adults do not pet, play or sleep with treated animals until the application site is dry.

What is the difference between FRONTLINE ® PLUS and FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON?

Both products kill fleas and ticks on your pet, however FRONTLINE® PLUS has an advanced formula that also stops flea eggs that fall off pets from hatching in your home.

I am pregnant, can I apply FRONTLINE PLUS ®/FRONTLINE ® SPOT ON/FRONTLINE TRI-ACT ® to my pet?

There are no known health risks associated with applying these products to your pet during pregnancy. As a general rule, pregnant women should wear gloves to avoid direct contact with the product.
